Interstate 81
Dandridge, TN to Wellesley Island, NY
I-81 runs approximately 855 miles from Dandridge, Tennessee through Bristol, Roanoke, Harrisonburg, Harrisburg, Scranton, and Syracuse to the St. Lawrence River crossing at the Canadian border. It carries the highest proportion of truck traffic of any US interstate -- at some points over 30% of all vehicles -- serving as the primary freight bypass of the congested and heavily tolled I-95 Northeast Corridor. The Shenandoah Valley sections are prone to dense fog, the Pennsylvania mountain sections accumulate ice rapidly in winter, and truck restrictions in Virginia and Pennsylvania can create significant delays.
