Ontario Highway 11

Barrie to Hearst, Ontario — Northern Ontario Corridor

Highway 11 is northern Ontario's primary north-south corridor, running from Barrie through Huntsville, North Bay, Cochrane, and Kapuskasing to Hearst — approximately 860 kilometres. North of North Bay, the highway enters the boreal zone of the Canadian Shield and Clay Belt, where services become sparse, moose populations become dense, and winter temperatures regularly reach -40°C. The Hearst-Kapuskasing section in particular combines extreme moose density, extended cold, limited emergency response, and a flat but fatigue-inducing alignment through the Clay Belt agricultural zone.
