Transportation Department
ITD
Idaho • United States of America
The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) manages over 4,800 centerline miles of state highways and nearly 1,900 bridges through rugged and rural terrain. Key freight corridors include I-84, I-86, I-15, and US-95. Idaho's economy is heavily dependent on freight — particularly for the agriculture, mining, and forest products industries — making ITD's management of commercial vehicle regulations, seasonal weight limits, and oversize permits essential. The department's 511 Idaho system provides road condition alerts critical for truckers navigating mountain passes and weather-affected routes in winter months.

Notable Rules
Idaho allows longer combination vehicles (up to 75 ft) on designated state routes. I-84 and I-86 are primary freight corridors. Boise is the primary freight hub. The agricultural (potato, wheat, dairy) and logging industries generate significant rural freight activity. ITD operates weigh stations on major routes.
