Missouri • United States of America

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) manages over 33,800 miles of roads — the seventh largest state-maintained road network in the US — centered on one of the nation's critical freight crossroads at St. Louis and Kansas City. Major freight corridors include I-44, I-55, I-64, I-70, I-29, and I-35. Missouri sits at the geographic center of the contiguous US, making it a hub for cross-country freight movement. MoDOT administers commercial vehicle permits, operates over 90 rest areas, and provides the Traveler Information Map (TIM) system for road conditions. The department manages critical Mississippi River bridge crossings essential to freight movement between East and West.

Notable Rules

Missouri is a national freight crossroads — St. Louis sits at the junction of I-44, I-55, I-64, and I-70; Kansas City anchors I-70 and I-35. Missouri has been gradually increasing its diesel fuel tax through annual increments enacted by state legislation. The MO fuel tax rate should be verified annually. I-70 across the state is one of the highest-volume freight corridors in the US.
